About

My name is Sam. All my life I have felt like I was an alien on this planet. I found people complicated, it took years of study to feel like I knew how to interact with people with some measure of success. In the last few years, I also began to have health complications. After multiple hospital visits and attempts at self-diagnosis via Google (which I never recommend, you end up thinking you have some rare and dreadful disease), I finally got some answers. In the summer of 2020 I was diagnosed with Autism and Lupus at age 39. Since then I have been re-learning how to be myself, how to manage my health and un-learning how to be the person I thought I was supposed to be. Along the way, I have been blessed to learn from the experiences of other adults who are autistic or have autoimmune diseases. Their willingness to share their experiences and their stories helped me to not feel alone in my situation and gave me hope. I have also learned from them about how to navigate the ups and downs of life. I would like to take a stab at sharing my own journey in hopes that someone who either is autistic or has Lupus will find my words and if nothing else, know that they are not the only person in the world going through this. At best, I hope to be able to share something of value.
